monday's minute challenge | forgotten

Tessa Emily Hall @ Christ is Write is hosting this AWESOME writing contest thingy called "Monday's Minute Challenge".

I always thought it would be fun to write something about an imaginary friend since I've seen lots of other people do it before. So, here is my MMC entry. *lights dim*

{ forgotten }

Harley bounded up the stairs and ran to me, wrapping me in a warm hug. I smiled. She had been in preschool for what had seemed like all day and had surely missed me much. She took her doll and we sat on her bed.
"Miss Dolly would like a nap, Missy," Harley giggled, wrapping her baby doll in a cloth blanket.
Suddenly, the door swung open and Mom walked in the room. "Time to go visit granny," Mom said, taking Harley's things and dumping them in her wooden box of dolls.
     "Can Missy come?" Harley asked
"Of course," Mom smiled. She picked Harley up and carried her downstairs with me trailing behind.
________

Harley bounded in the room, and I held out my arms, expecting the hug we usually exchanged after school. But, someone else bounded into the room after her. Harley and her friend sat down on Harley's bed and started chatting.
"Harley! Hey, Harley," I said, waving my arms in front of her face.
"Not now Missy," Harley frowned, pushing me away.
I sat down in the corner of the room and watched their conversation. Tears started slipping down my cheeks - Harley had been bringing other friends home more often and rejecting my company even more so after she'd turned ten. What was happening to her? I didn't know, but it was hurting me.

________

It was Harley's sixteenth birthday. She was having a party downstairs, but I wasn't attending.
It had happened about a week earlier - the first signs that I was fading away. It had been happening faster and faster over the days. Today, I was almost completely transparent.
I watched as the last of my body faded away. All was left was my head. I buried my head in my invisible knees and waited for it to happen - waited for me to fully fade and be blown away with the wind. Harley didn't need me anymore.
Happy memories of our times together filled my mind - I had done my work. I had helped Harley through the years like a good Imaginary Friend.
Then, I closed my eyes peacefully and smiled before I was forgotten forever and became only one of the happy memories in Harley's mind.

________

I hope you liked the story! It was kinda choppy and needed a bunch of work - maybe I'll come back to it later and edit it some more. πŸ˜€
Did you like the story? Have you ever had an imaginary friend? Does MMC look cool?

    2. Hey, Brianna, what's your blog addres? (this might seem weird coming from a random stranger who stalks Anika's posts, but Anika can confirm that I am not a creepy stalker weirdo... Though, if i am sane, she can neither confirm nor deny. LOL

    3. Hi? Err, sure. Here: skyedancer626.wordpress.com
My sanity is in doubt, as well, so I shan't hold it against you. XP I must admit I'm curious, though. Why'd you want it?

    4. I don't know, actually!!! I just liked your first name, and I was curious if you blogged? That may be the reason, but for the most part I'm not even sure why I asked. XD

And yeah, my sanity is something debatable....
